Climate justice and resilience

Sheria Ya Vijana

Young people in Nairobi and Kwale leading the green and digital transitions and taking part in policy design.

Sheria Ya Vijana empowers, engages, and connects young people in Kenya to take the lead in the green and digital transitions, and to participate in policy design and decision-making.

The project strengthens Kenyan civil society, particularly youth-led organizations, as actors in governance, accountability, and development. It promotes social and economic inclusion of youth in Nairobi and Kwale, home to a combined population of about 5.8 million people.

Kenya’s growing youth population still struggles for decent work, a place in governance, and a footing in fast-changing economies. The green and digital transitions hold unused potential, yet young people are often left out. Sheria Ya Vijana responds with policy participation, support for youth-led civil society, and training in those economies.

SYO co-develops a mapping tool with the Organisation of African Youth to find active youth groups, mobilizes through county networks, and selects 30 committed leaders for Local Youth Forums after a three-day onboarding in advocacy and policy engagement. In Kwale, SYO coordinates six Local Youth Forums — one per sub-county — each with 15 members.
